On August 20th, 2017, Major League Baseball comes to Williamsport, Pennsylvania's historic BB&T Ballpark at Bowman Field, home of the Little League World Series. The game will be known as the MLB Little League Classic and will be played between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Pirates. The game will be broadcast on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball and is being orchestrated by Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Player's Association.

The game is an effort to show Major League Baseball's solidarity with youth baseball in an effort to preserve the game as the national pastime. The Pittsburgh Pirates will be the designated home team and will play the series' first games at PNC Park in Pittsburgh. The MLB Little League Classic follows the successful Fort Bragg game played at a military base last season between the Atlanta Braves and the Miami Marlins. The Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks also played a 2014 opening series game at a cricket ground in Sydney, Australia.

BB&T Ballpark at Bowman Field also serves as the home field of the Williamsport Crosscutters, a Philadelphia Phillies affiliate and member of the short season New York - Penn League. The ballpark opened in 1926 and is the second oldest ballpark in Minor League Baseball. There are a countless number of Major League Baseball players that have either played at Bowman Field as members of teams in the New York-Penn League or as little leaguers.
