I was pretty happy with section 309. I sat there for my first Mariners game last year. The view is almost the same as the view I got from the bleachers the next night (section 192) and the seats are much more comfortable here.

Steepness. How steep is it? Fairly steep because that's the only way to give the view level patrons a good vantage point on the game. Unlike the lower level outfield, 309 gives you a good look at the infield too, it's just over 500 feet away. But there is railing all over, so it's not that dangerous.

I'm usually not a fan of newer ballparks especially those with a roof; baseball shouldn't be played indoors (Marlins Park, Safeco Field, Minute Maid Park, Rogers Centre, Miller Park). But wow, Safeco Field was amazing. I was in Seattle for an entire week and I got to see the stadium with the roof open and closed for two separate games. The weather wasn't that great for either game but I guess that's kind of what Seattle is known for.

To give you an idea what the view of the field is like from section 309, here is a Youtube video shot from there during a Mariners/Tampa Bay Rays game at Safeco Field.
